Robert Madsen R.H.A. of Las Vegas, founder and CEO of ROOMfinders International INC., has been hand picked by Mitt Romney
to head up the overwhelming task of Chief Executive Housing Committee Chairman, for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
Robert Madsen of Las Vegas Nevada, has been hand picked by Mit Romney, president of the Salt Lake City Organizing Committee to take the helm of the Olympic Housing Committee, overseeing and managing all aspects of the lodging and housing needs of the more than 1,000,000 anticipated visitors and athletes scheduled to attend the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Madsen was picked by Romney to replace Jim Harsaw as Committee Chairman as a result of Harsaw's less "than stellar Management abilities for an event of this size".
Madsen was born and raised in Fairfield California and is the third child of a family of six. Robert is an alumni of Brigham Young University, having completed Majors in Business and Spanish and a Masters Degrees in Hotel Administration and Finance from UNLV. After his studies, Madsen worked for years in Las Vegas in various
management capacities at Resorts in Las Vegas. Unsatisfied and disillusioned by working for large corporations and what he calls, "a lack of being able to have total control of resource allocation", Madsen decided to follow his passion of starting a business of his own.
From humble beginnings in 1991, Robert started ROOMfinders International
Housing Services ™ and in 1994 Global Convention Services Bureau Corp. "Our companies specialize in Direct Corporate Travel and Convention Destination Services at more that 200 Convention Centers Worldwide". Currently Madsen's companies manage more than 1,7000 conventions each year and their clients include Disney, Time Warner, AOL, General Electric as well as the U.S.
Olympic Committee and many more. Madsen also works as a "Convention Industry Consultant", sitting on various Corporate Committees including; MGM Mirage Resorts, Mandalay Resort Group and Marriott Hotels to name a few, which together own nearly half of the hotel rooms in Las Vegas. "Heading up the Olympic Housing Committee is not a job that I applied for, but was a job that sough me out" Madsen says, "I am honored and flattered to be asked by the Olympic Committee to assist in making the 2002 Winter Olympics a great
success for all the world to see and enjoy" states Madsen. Mitt Romney stated that "although his salary exceeds $2,000,000 for his work, Madsen has a worldwide reputation and proven history of success's in Managing epic events and Conventions". Romney further states "Madsen's track record of Managing the largest and most successful conventions in Boston for the past
7 years is second to none", Romney states, "we are getting off cheap, as his track record and abilities ensure a successful Olympic Games, and I am completely confident in his abilities".
As a result of his endeavors, Robert has traveled extensively throughout the World and for this reason considers Utah to be the most beautiful State in the U.S. "with the best people, as evidenced by the vast role that Utah volunteers have already played in organizing many aspects of the games".
Last year Robert Madsen moved his family from "Sin City" to Alpine Utah. Robert says jokingly, "this is a great compliment to Utah because we could live anywhere in the U.S. that we wanted to!"
Robert has various hobbies and passions including; Snow Skiing, Film Production, Song Writing and Riding his dirt bike. "There is no greater joy in my life than spending time with my family and giving back to the community". Madsen has two daughters aged 7 and 11 and a lovely wife of 14 years. Robert considers his family to be his greatest asset and joy. "Spending quality
time with my girls is what I live for and they are my truest passion…..as well as my his wife of course!"...
Over the years Robert has had many great experiences working in the community and has worked extensively with youth. For the past 5 years Robert has worked as a Priest Quorum advisor in the L.D.S. Church in Las Vegas as an advisor to the Explorer Scouts, where he oversees and mentors boys who are 16 to 19 years of age, helping them to set high goals in life and achieve
their dreams .
As a result of his experiences working with teenagers approaching adulthood, Madsen feels that he understands the youth of today and the challenges that they face, and he enjoys mentoring them at "life's crossroads". Robert understands that the decisions that teens make at this critical age whether for good or bad can have a negative or positive effect on the course of
their lives and the lives of their own families.
Madsen states "my goal is to ensure that the Games are a success for all, and that the world will view the Olympic Games as a great healer in this time of turmoil and grief, bringing the world closer together and uniting the world for common good". Only time will tell...
